GM Valerij Popov, our active commentator, became the Saint-Petersburg
Champion! The 74th St. Petersburg championship took place from April 10
to 20. 12 players took part in the round robin including 6 GMs: Ivanov,
Sergey 2547, Popov, Valery 2545, Yemelin, Vasily 2522, Lugovoi, Alexsei 2512,
Ionov, Sergey 2505, Loginov, Valery (present champion) 2499. There was of interest
a performance of one of the most perspective young (15 years old) IM Alekseev,
