Morozevich - Adams The Petrosian variation of Queen indian is played. In a well known position White has applied the new idea 10. Qe2 (usually continued 10. Bf4 or 10. Be2). There was the typical pawn's structure with strong, but a little by passive position at Black, "dug round" on last 3 lines.
Further there was an exchange of last pair of knights, then the advantage of White carries the more academic character, but is not necessary to forget, that of similar size advantage Morozevich had and in the game with Lautier from this tournament, and result (1-0) we know.

In the game of the leaders Bareev - Grischuk Black again has selected Tarrasch variation, repeatedly met in their practice.
White in the answer has selected the most basic move 9. Bg5, on what Black Has answered 9... c4 (is more common 9... cd 10. Nd4 h6 11. Be3 Re8 and Black has active figured game in compensation for isolated pawn). Bareev has finished development of pieces and begins to look after to not so strong pawn structure of Black.
16.bxc4 changes a situation on the board, now in case of 16... dxc4 White play 17.e4 and supervising by pawns the central squares has clear advantage; on 16... Rb4 Barev has prepared 17. Nb2 Qa3 18. Bc1 dxc4 19. Nd1 Qa6 20. Bd2 Rb7 21.e4 with advantage.
Grischuk has selected 17... Qb6 18. Rab1 dxc4 (it was bad 18... Qd4 19. Rfd1 Qb6 (19... Qc5 20. Nd3 Qc4 21. Nb4) 20. Bd2 Ng4 21.e3 and white win exchange) 19. Na4 Qa5 20. Rb4 Bb4 and thanking battery Qa5, Bb4, supervising a square c3, Black has quite the good counterplay.
Bareev was compelled to supersede the bishop b4 to weaken pawn "a" And soon the game was finished by triple recurrence of moves 25... Qb5 (threatening Qb3) 26. Rb1 Qa6 27. Ra1 Qb5 etc.

Concerning the game Van Wely - Lautier it is possible to tell only that the drawn result suited both, as was expressed as a result of the game soon after its beginning.

In the game Piket - Kasimdzhanov has met harmless enough for Black version of variation Makagonov-Bondarevsky in queen gambit. And, though, it was possible for Fisher in a match against Spassky for world chess crown in 1972 to win one of the games, played by this variant, hardly Piket will be able to repeat this success.

In the game Gurevich - Khalifman the English opening was played. Both partners tried to keep the equality, not undertaking any resolute actions. After short manoeuvring the agreement on a drawn game has followed.

In the game Timman - Gelfand was played sharpest Naidorf variation in Sicilian defence. After 18. Ncb5 Gelfand has undertaken the forced operation, Which after precise objection of Timman has resulted in the difficult for Black ending and soon in pawn ending Gelfand was compelled to resign.
Honour and praise to the veteran!
